SRWMD Seeks Public Comments on Draft SWIM Plans
LIVE OAK, FLA., Sept. 8, 2017 – The Suwannee River Water Management District (District) is consolidating and revising its Surface Water Improvement and Management (SWIM) plans and welcomes comments on the draft Suwannee River Basin SWIM Plan and draft Coastal Rivers Basin SWIM Plan.
In 1987, the Florida legislature passed the SWIM Act (Florida statute 373.451) which directed all five water management districts to develop plans to identify and prioritize degraded surface waters within the regional boundaries and outline plans and programs for the improvement and management of those surfaces waters. The plans identify priority water bodies based on their regional significance and need for protection and management.
The District’s SWIM plans are available for comment at www.mysuwanneeriver.com, search “SWIM Plan Updates.” All comments should be sent to Planning@SRWMD.org and need to be submitted by November 1, 2017.
The mission of the Suwannee River Water Management District is to protect and manage water resources using science-based solutions to support natural systems and the needs of the public. The District holds true to the belief of water for nature, water for people. Headquartered in Live Oak, Florida, the District serves 15 surrounding north-central Florida counties.
For more information about the District, visit www.mysuwanneeriver.com or follow us on Facebook and Twitter, search @SRWMD.
