Alphonas Alexander, Vice-Chair

Al Alexander was appointed by Governor Crist in March 2010, to represent the Upper Suwannee River Basin.  Raised on his family’s farm in Madison County, Florida, Mr. Alexander has an extensive background in agriculture and forestry, including a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science from Florida A&M University.

Mr. Alexander served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves from 1972 to 1995 at which time he retired.  He began his lengthy career as a forester with the Proctor and Gamble Buckeye pulp and paper plant in Perry in 1976. Since retiring in 2005, Mr. Alexander has worked as an independent contractor for The Forestry Company, of Perry.

Mr. Alexander is a member of the Forestry Stewardship program and the Florida Forestry Association. He has received professional certifications for Silviculture Best Management Practices, Herbicide Applicator, Master Tree Farmer, and Master Wildlife.

He is the former vice chair of the board of directors for the Buckeye Community Federal Credit Union, a member of the board of directors for the Area Agency on Aging for North Florida, Inc., and board chairman of his church.
