Northwest Region
Recreation - Northwest Region

The northwest region of the District follows the district boundaries through Jefferson County and portions of both Madison and Taylor counties. The Econfina, Aucilla, and Wacissa rivers flow through the northwest region to the Gulf of Mexico.

Recreational opportunities in this region include biking, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, and wildlife viewing. The region provides excellent fishing and paddling opportunities at the numerous river access points. These river corridors provide natural flood protection and good wildlife habitat.

The northwest area is remote and wilderness-like area and access to District lands is limited due to the lack of roads and swampy areas.

District lands are numbered and circled in blue on the map above. Select one of these numbers or their corresponding links in the table below for a description and map of each tract.

IMPORTANT NOTICES:
September 15, 2017 - The following District lands have reopened:  Devil's Hammock, Steinhatchee Falls, Sunnyvale, Log Landing, Shingle Landing, Nature Coast, Mt. Gilead, Cabbage Grove, Scanlon, Cabbage Creek, Holton Creek, Mallory Swamp, Goose Pasture Campground, Little River, Jones Mill Creek and Gar Pond.  All other District remain closed to public access until damage and safety assessments can be completed due to Hurricane Irma.

August 17, 2017 - The boardwalk at Pot Springs on the Withlacoochee tract in Hamilton County is closed for renovations.
