The northwest region of the District follows the district boundaries through Jefferson County and portions of both Madison and Taylor counties. The Econfina, Aucilla, and Wacissa rivers flow through the northwest region to the Gulf of Mexico.
Recreational opportunities in this region include biking, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, and wildlife viewing. The region provides excellent fishing and paddling opportunities at the numerous river access points. These river corridors provide natural flood protection and good wildlife habitat.
The northwest area is remote and wilderness-like area and access to District lands is limited due to the lack of roads and swampy areas.

IMPORTANT NOTICES:November 1, 2017 - White Springs tract will be closed week days until further notice for land management operations. It is open on Saturday and Sunday for recreation opportunities. October 26, 2017 - Goose Pasture Campground will be closed to camping during the general gun hunting season November 4, 2017 - January 22, 2018. The park will be open for day use. August 17, 2017 - The boardwalk at Pot Springs on the Withlacoochee tract in Hamilton County is closed for renovations.
